Escola Secundária De Figueiró Dos Vinhos

Schools > Portugal

The AEFV - Agrupamento de Escolas de Figueiró dos Vinhos - (Grouping of Schools in Figueiró dos Vinhos) is a network of local public schools working under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. It's located in the centre of Portugal, a region known as Pinhal Interior (Inner Forest), which is both socially and economically a fragile area.
These several schools aim at promoting equal opportunities for its students, providing adequate teaching, social and professional integration. The grouping of schools is attended by students of all teaching levels from kindergarten to upper secondary, aged three to eighteen.

As far as the secondary level is concerned, school receives students from other neighbor councils, like Castanheira de Pêra, Pedrógão Grande, Ansião and Penela.
At the present moment the School Grouping has got 810 students, 99 teachers, 7 special education teachers, a psychologist and a graduate in Educational Sciences, 15 administrative assistants and 50 attendants.

There are 48 students with permanent special needs integrated in regular classes. Nine of these students have got specific individual curricula and are already attending pre-professional training in companies and local institutions, with which school established partnerships aiming at their future social and professional integration. There are also four classes of alternative curricula characterized by their practical motivating character, different from the national curriculum. These classes try to fulfill the need of an alternative for students who repeatedly fail, are at risk of dropping out or aren't fully integrated in the community.
The Grouping of Schools has been involved in a number of national and European projects (Socrates, Comenius, Regio and POPH) and has created a diversified educational offer, especially in the vocational area with courses in ITC, Civil Protection, Electricity, Renewable Energy Sources, Childcare, etc. Students attending these courses obtain a professional degree which will enable them to integrate the job market. Students who conclude the Secondary Level may continue their studies at university or at a technical specialized institute.
