SPECIAL UPBRINGING CENTRE NO 2 FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS WITH IMPAIRED HEARING IN PRZEMYŚL (Poland)
The centre was established in 1951 and is named after Janusz Korczak. His approach towards children full of love and respect and his idea of ''pedagogy of heart'' is a model for our teachers in their everyday work. Our centre is a regional institution situated on 2.5 hectares. It consists of five buildings as well as sports and recreational facilities. Our students have the opportunity to develop their interests by having a free access to the library, computer lab and gym.
They can unfold their interests in acting in a school theatre "Pinocio'' or may develop their interests in a sport club ''Niedzwiadek'. On leaving the centre all graduates are provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead adult lives outside.
The school contains 95pupils : female: 30; male: 65, are medically diagnosed with hearing impairment:
-Most of pupils come from both - parent families with poor material condition and single -parent families too, orphanage. Most of the pupils stay in the dormitory. Some of them are day pupils.
-Children come to school in the 1st Grade when aged 7 to 9 (having /not having) gone to a special education
-Each class of pupils is heterogeneous, with children of different ages, different hearing losses and often with double or triple deficiencies : mental retardation, autism, problems of behaviour,
The most specific objectives are:
- stimulating permanently any form of communication (verbal /nonverbal)
- developing the skill of acquiring the phonoarticulatory model by means of lip reading in various communication media. The Centre comprises:
